| Hawaiian Rooster encaustic 6x6 |
My husband went to an interview this past week and this was one of the questions. He came home and told me about how it all went - questions and his answers. He said, I'm not sure I did OK on this one. So, he asked me... "What drives you? How would you answer that?"
Really, it was an easy answer for me. I am driven to gain knowledge. I am driven to understand things, to better myself and my skills and to learn all this by gaining knowledge. Sometimes I get an insatiable appetite for learning something. I am driven to compulsion to learn it. I get it in my brain and it takes hold and I'm on a tangent... I'm driven to learn whatever it is.
I learn through books, videos, asking questions and finding examples, taking lessons. Study is in there too. I study. I practice. I also google. I love it - this quest for knowledge. Its ongoing for me and ever changing. I land in a spot and gain knowledge there and when I feel like I've learned it - I move on, move forward. That was my answer - this is what drives me. He looked at me and said "wow, I think I should have said that - that's a good answer". Made me smile.
I mentioned I was on a bird thing. Here's one of the few I've been working on. I always wonder why a certain animal appears in my mind and just has to be painted. I do believe there is some connection there when an animal makes an appearance. So, if you are curious, as I was - here's the answer Rooster totem

When I was doing my Masters in Creativity Theory one of the things that came up again and again was the intrinsic quest for knowledge in creative people... that and an obsessive streak... and from your answer and this post you fit very firmly in that category... mind you looking at your gorgeous paintings would have told us that anyway...xx

ReplyDeletethat's a great answer and one I can relate to - I always want to know 'why, how, what about?' there's something sad about people living in their insular little bubble with no interest in expanding their mindset beyond their existing learned beliefs. Your rooster is fantastic-the depth in that eye! That's great you've been painting every day-I've been trying to sketch every day too.

That rooster looks so real, wow, it's almost like a picture. Especially the eye! Lovely to see you're joining the 29 faces challenge! Great first face! Don't rip the pages out, you can always paint over it if you don't like it!

The rooster is beautiful. He has such depth in the encaustics. And me, I love anything painted on a book page. I love opening the old books to find the newly painted surprises. I've got several of them in progress around the house. I am the same way with info. DH spends his evening computer time watching TV shows and music videos and I spend mine researching whatever random thing has piqued my interest that day. The internet is such a treasure for info junkies! How can anyone get bored when there are always so many more things to learn?

ReplyDeleteI too love to learn. My interests change overtime but that is what makes life fun. There is always something new to learn and to do, so if I get bored there is only one person to blame - me!
Wow, Marji, your rooster looks like he could hop off the page and scratch around in the dirt. I grew up in the country and I can tell you, he's authentic. His look says: don't mess with me or I'll tear your eyes out. His beautiful feathers belie his inner demeanor. I have a friend who is deathly afraid of roosters. One chased her down when she was a little girl and hurt, but not injured, her. Thanks for commenting on my painted pages.

The rooster is so intricately painted, I enjoy looking at each feather. I've been driven to learn, research and get that degree. Now, with experience and understanding, I am at the stage of wanting to help others in their quest. Blessings, Janet PPF
