Thoughts Become Things, Rescue Dog, and Wesley

Red Dog, Red Ball
encaustic on birch 8x10

I am a firm believer in "thoughts become things" or putting a thought, an idea, a wish, a dream, whatever - putting it out there - in the Universe - asking.  To me, by doing this, its like tossing a pebble into the water and causing a ripple.  A little tiny ripple which carries my thought on it across the fabric of the Universe - out there - to be answered and returned back to me when the time is right and the answer is just what I need at that very moment.

We've been wanting a dog.  Its been close to a year since we lost our sweet dog to old age.  We were ready even though it means giving up a bit of freedom and spontaneity.  So, I did just this very thing.  I painted the painting of the red dog about a month ago.  I tossed my tiny pebble into the waters of the Universe and asked that a dog would come to us.  The right dog, the one we've been waiting for and is looking for us, the one not to replace the dogs I've had but to add to their history and compliment our family.

Unplanned, unready, bad timing... Here's Wesley - a half basset hound, half lab 1 1/2 years old surrendered to the Oregon Humane Society because his owner died and the people who ended up with him and his identical brother couldn't keep them.  We took Wes and another family went home with his brother just one day after being in the shelter.  Call it good timing, good fortune, call it what you like - but my little ripple was returned to me in a 50 lb package of pure love and snuggles.

I'm actually quite amazed at how closely he resembles my painting.  I missed the white toes and white on his chest but you have to admit its a bit uncanny (or not).

  2. Unreal...he's even the same size as your painting....I love how the universe rises up to greet us at just the perfect moment! He looks so sweet... I am a lifer when it comes to animals. Nothing is sadder to see his family member pass and then have no one!! He must feel sad about that...so glad he has someone to love again!! Such a happy ending!! Thanks for sharing!

  9. Wow, Marji, before I read your blog I saw your beautiful painting and immediately thought you'd painted Wesley - then I got goosebumps when I read that the painting came about before Wesley came into your lives!! I am also a firm believer in the law of attraction which is why I practice gratitude and try to put only good thoughts out into the universe (if I think something negative which we all do, I quickly try to turn it into a positive!!) It works for me and clearly it works for you - Wesley is a darling and I'm so ready the universe conspired for you to meet and share your lives, x

  14. It is amazing how much he looks like that painting! But in your picture of him he looks Blue. Maybe you should call him Blue? Or do another painting in blue. Sweet how Karma works sometime.

  15. Hi Marji. Your Red Dog and Wesley do look like one another. Things work in mysterious ways. I know about how it is to lose an older family pet member, I've lost 3 of them. Now Chippy who is over 14 is heading in that direction. Chocolatte who will be 8 in November is also getting on in age. How we love them and when they go, they take a part of us with them. Congratulations with your new family pet member Wesley. Enjoy the ride. He is adorable. Great painting too. Now you can paint Wesley too.:) Have a great day.

  16. OH my goodness! They look SOOOO much alike! Love the eyes - on both:-) They speak volumes. The tiles and ball in your painting has so much depth, I feel like I can literally pick that ball up! Wishing you many happy days with Wesley:-)

  18. Wesley is adorable. I think the universe was listening. It is such a tough thing to find that new dog to join the family. But worth the wait, I am sure.
