The World Beneath My Feet

My first question to you is... Do you Instagram?  If you don't, well, you should.  Download the app and join in the fun.  You can follow me - RainCityGirl

I've been collecting photos of me standing in the world ever since I took Susanna Conway's Unravelling course (You can see the side bar and click for information)
Holly (aka: Soupatraveler), a fellow Unraveller, got the bright idea to put together a place where we can all share our self portrait feet photos.
Its called from where i stand.  You can find it as a group on Flickr and also on Instagram #fromwhereistand

The idea behind it is to capture where you stand in the world.
The rules are simple - look straight down and take a photo of the world beneath your feet.  Don't forget to include your feet in the photo.
With our camera phones its so easy to capture these unique places we stand in our world.
Here's some from the archives - and of course you will recognize that the header photo is one of the collection.

It's pretty fun.  I hope to see you on Instagram!

iPhone Inspiration

Today I had some fun and pulled together this little painting kinda late in the day. Its not done yet, but I was pretty excited to share my discovery.

Encaustic on Panel
8x8

It was one of those days.  I really didn't feel like doing anything.  So I really kinda putzed around and wasted a day.  But one really good thing came of it.
I played around with my iPhone.  Now in and of itself that may not seem like much.  But, I found that if I took a photo of one of my sketches and loaded it into Picture Show (iPhone ap) that I could play with some really cool effects.

Pop Art in Picture Show
My favorite discovery was PopArt..  It gave some pretty cool color combos.  I cropped the photos to square which is my favorite for painting.  When I worked on the crop I could play around with the composition.

PopArt and Double Exposure in Picture Show
I also discovered double exposure as providing some great ideas.  Now, keep in mind, Picture Show in these modes is totally random.  This is good and bad in that it is really luck of the draw as to what you get.
For those of us that are a little challenged to think outside of the box for color and for some different compositions, this is a great find.
Give it a try and loop back here and tell me what you think.

Summer's Bounty

Dog and I went blackberry picking today.  Its kind of one of those rites of summer - berry picking.
I love the way the berries turn my fingers purple.  They are so plump and ripe this time of year.  They literally melt in the mouth.
Been playing around with macro photography.  I don't have a macro lens but I do love the close up and filling the frame.
It's been macro week over at Mortal Muses and its amazing to see what everyone does.  Some are the true macro close up of nature's beauty and some are some really great detail shots that fill the frame.  Either way, its pretty fun to give it a try.
