Bye, Bye August

AUGUST

August has been a beautiful month. I really have had a great August. It's not because anything really eventful happened, or I went anywhere on vacation, or I did anything... really.

I think this is perhaps what made August SO GREAT.

I basically hung around home.

Enjoyed house guests, cooked meals on the grill, ate outside on the deck and lingered in the warm evenings. I watched the sun rise, I spent time in the garden, and I walked the dog. I rode my bike, I played golf and I spent time with friends. I read books, I had pedicures and I wore sandals. My hair bleached, my skin tanned and my mind rested.

My simple August was full of more pleasureful moments than I can count. It was easy, it was basic and it was at home.

I wish summer could linger.
Maybe it will last into September. However, after Labor Day it all changes for me. The days get shorter, we move indoors, we start wearing sweaters and boots.
There is something about August that rejuvinates the soul and readies us for heading into the winter months.
Its here I say goodbye to August. Thank you - Its been fun. I'll miss you.
See you next year.

August Break - August Ending....

August 29 and 30

I was actually hoping that with the August Break with Susannah that I would get in the habit of posting at least a photo everyday. I still am wallowing in my old habits of continuously running behind. I think for my new year's resolution... I'll put at the top of my list:
1. Stay on top of things
Altough, there is a benefit of always running behind... it keeps me fit!

Sunday Creative word prompt - Illuminate
She closed her eyes for a brief second as she took in the fresh air. There it was - definately the feeling of autumn. "How could it be?" she asked herself. Summer has come and gone so quickly. A flash of sunshine peeked through the fluttering leaves above her. The sounds of laughter floated on the air as children played along the grassy hillside. She loved how the gentle breeze touched her face and brought the lingering scent of summer. Each step was taking her closer to her destination and she was ready to be there. She stepped off the curb and crossed the street towards the small cafe on the corner. As she entered, the bell above the door sounded her arrival. The cafe was surprisingly full for this time of day. She looked around for an empty table, thinking she would be lucky to find a spot. A smile crossed her face as she saw him sitting alone by the window. The sunlight through the glass illuminated his strong features.

Orient

Sunday Creative word prompt - Orient
She walked briskly into the room; she was late. She glanced around, needing to orient herself with the surroundings. This was her first time here. The room was large, yet intimate and she was feeling comfortable as she stood near the doorway. She glanced quickly at the groups of people swaying gently with laughter and discussion. The smell of fresh flowers and champagne swirled in the air. "Where is he?'" she thought. She walked further into the room to where she could better see her surroundings. She felt a gentle touch on her arm. As she turned, she saw him standing there behind her.. "Would you care for a glass of champagne?", he asked. A smile broke across her face - "Yes, thank you" she said.

I've been on a road trip and am still on it. I actually thought today was the 1/2 way mark for the 365 project - my road trip. But I recounted and today is #186. So, I passed my milestone and didn't even realize it. It's been a fantastic trip so far, I have to say. I have learned so much about myself in these past 6 months. I have improved my photography skills (so much more to learn). I have met so many wonderful people in this world called Flickr. I have been inspired every day by all the talent out there in this world. Its been a remarkable trip this far.... can't wait to see what the next 6 months have to bring. I can never say thank you enough to my friend, Ingrid who started me on this trip.

I'm so intrigued by graffeti art. There is an abandoned building that I pass in the U District that is covered. I finally stopped yesterday to have a closer look.

I've decided to push myself a bit. To think outside of the box for me. My sunday creative photo is going to include a little creative writing. I've never written before but for some reason I feel like trying. I'll see how it goes, test the waters. Maybe like the 365 improves photography perhaps it will be the same for writing.

As she walked along the wooded path, the sunlight glimmered through the trees. The grasses gently swayed before her as the warm breeze brought the smell of wild flowers. Its a shame to leave this place she thought, but the day was moving ahead and she had things to do. A little break in the routine was all she needed; a moment under the summer sun. She raised her face toward the sky and let the sun bathe her skin one last time before heading home. A smile broke across her face as she took in the etheral joy of summer.

August 8 & 9

I wish I could say the weather is better...

I'm taking the August Break with Susannah and others. Only photos, no words really... but also no rules either. I've been so busy this month already with more to come. Lots of house guests, entertaining and then catching up in between. Believe me, I'm not complaining - Its nice.

This magnolia was front and center in my family room window. There really is no reason for it to face in to me. Nor is there any reason that this flower would appear on the dark side of the tree next to the house. There also is no reason that its best visable from the couch on the side where I sit. There is no reason at all for any of these things. I know its a message, a message for me. What...I'm not sure, I have my guesses... All I know is that there really is no reason, no reason for it to be there at all - but it brought great happiness and it made me smile.
